Meet the Team

The team behind the @fairaclproject:

Elisa Nédélec – Doctoral Researcher

Elisa Nédélec is a PhD candidate at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) in Sport and Exercise Physiology. She is investigating the potential impact of the reproductive hormones on the incidence of non-contact Anterior Cruciate Ligament injuries in female athletes. She completed her Master in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in Belgium and worked for eight years as a sports physiotherapist, specialised in orthopaedics, traumatology and global postural rehabilitation. Her research interests include female physiology in sport and exercise, sport injury primary and secondary prevention, and the potential a pluri-disciplinary team has for ensuring a more equal practice of sports for girls and women.

Professor Kirsty Elliott-Sale

Professor Elliott-Sale completed her undergraduate degree and PhD [Exercise Physiology] at Liverpool John Moores University. Her PhD examined the effects of female reproductive hormones on muscle strength and since then her work has mainly focused on women. She worked as a Lecturer at Brunel University and the University of Brighton before undertaking a four-year Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at Kings College London. Professor Elliott-Sale joined Nottingham Trent University (NTU) in September 2009. In addition to her research on sports women [the menstrual cycle, hormonal contraceptives, the Female Athlete Triad and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport], her work in recent years has involved designing exercise interventions for weight management in overweight and obese pregnant and postpartum women, as well as studying other aspect of maternal health. She is Professor of Female Physiology and the Head of the Musculoskeletal Physiology Research Group at NTU.
